“The Heat Garden” riceve una menzione d’onore del Premio italiano di Architettura 2024 promosso dal MAXXI di Roma e da Triennale Milano
Roma, 14 giugno 2024 – “The Heat Garden”, progetto architettonico green realizzato da Iren nel quartiere di San Salvario, a Torino, ha ricevuto la menzione d’onore del Premio italiano di Architettura 2024. Il prestigioso premio è dedicato alla valorizzazione della qualità architettonica nel Paese ed è promosso e realizzato in collaborazione dal MAXXI di Roma e da Triennale Milano.
La menzione d’onore per “The Heat Garden” è stata consegnata a Luciano Pia, l’architetto torinese che ha firmato il progetto inaugurato nel maggio 2023.
“The Heat Garden” è una costruzione con una forte impronta green, realizzata da Iren per ospitare un sistema di accumulo del calore a servizio della rete metropolitana di teleriscaldamento: oltre all’impianto – che comprende tre accumulatori da circa 2.500 m³, capaci di servire 2,2 Mln m³ di nuova utenza, una stazione di pompaggio e ripompaggio – la struttura ospita terrazzi e giardini pensili, con oltre 11 mila piante e alberi e una serra dedicata all’attività didattica. Nella struttura è inoltre presente una sala attrezzata già utilizzata per convegni ed eventi culturali aperti alla cittadinanza.
“The Heat Garden” è un esempio concreto di architettura ecosostenibile, la cui principale caratteristica è il ricorso al verde come strategia fondamentale per migliorare il rendimento delle strutture, progettate seguendo specifici principi che permettono di ridurre il loro impatto sull’ambiente e aumentare l’integrazione nel tessuto urbano.

Un’eccellenza Iren ma aperta al territorio che, dalla sua inaugurazione nella primavera del 2023, continua a ospitare eventi e visite di cittadini e studenti”.
“The Heat Garden” è stato inoltre inserito tra i progetti esposti all’interno della mostra dedicata al Premio e che sarà visitabile presso il MAXXI – Museo Nazionale delle Arti del XXI Secolo – di Roma fino al 29 settembre 2024.

“The Heat Garden” receives an honourable mention in the Italian Architecture Award 2024 promoted by MAXXI Rome and by Triennale Milano
Rome, 14 June 2024 – “The Heat Garden”, a green architectural project implemented by Iren in the San Salvario district of Turin, has received an honourable mention in the Italian Architecture Award 2024. The prestigious award is dedicated to the enhancement of architectural quality in Italy and is promoted and implemented in collaboration with MAXXI in Rome and by Triennale Milano.
The honourable mention for “The Heat Garden” was awarded to Luciano Pia, the architect from Turin who designed the project, which was inaugurated in May 2023.
“The Heat Garden” is a building with a strong green footprint, implemented by Iren to contain a heat storage system serving the metropolitan district heating network: besides the system – which includes three accumulators of about 2,500 m3, capable of serving 2.2 Mln m³ of new users, a pumping and repumping station – the structure contains terraces and hanging gardens, with over 11 thousand plants and trees and a greenhouse dedicated to educational activities. The facility also includes a well-equipped room already used for conferences and cultural events open to the public.
“The Heat Garden” represents a tangible example of eco-sustainable architecture, and its main feature is the use of greenery as a fundamental strategy to improve the performance of the facilities, designed according to specific principles that reduce their impact on the environment and increase their integration into the urban fabric.

The Heat Garden is a unique building in Italy, which, as a result of the project signed by architect Pia, has been able to combine technology, design and urban planning in a central area of Turin, bringing together attention to sustainability and the territory with cutting-edge technical solutions. An Iren excellence that is open to the territory and that, since its inauguration in spring 2023, continues to be the venue for events and visits by citizens and students“.
“The Heat Garden” was also included among the projects displayed in the exhibition dedicated to the Award, which will be open to the public at MAXXI – Museo Nazionale delle Arti del XXI Secolo – in Rome until 29 September 2024.
